from The Fayetteville ObserverThe air was filled with the sound of gunshots last weekend in Spring Lake. That’s not really unusual at the Clay Target Center, but the people doing the shooting made the scene a little different than normal. The National Skeet Shooting Association’s 2009 Krieghoff Masters took place at the center from last week and hundreds of the best shooters in the world were on hand to take aim at top honors. More |

I have asked Jack Ross to establish a President’s Page on the website so I and future Presidents can share information with the membership. I would like to just outline some of the things that are going on within North Carolina Skeet. Below I will layout some of the initiatives that have currently been undertaken within the State association: - A new and interactive website is being developed by Jack Ross and David Pitts. They have worked hard and are getting a firm foundation established to what will truly be a first class website. Please take the time to thank both of these guys for providing their time and energies in providing this service to you. You can find our website at www.ncskeet.com please view it often to keep up to date on what is happening.
- I have asked Jack and David to establish a World Champion Section on the website to honor our World Champions who currently reside in North Carolina. I have asked for a photo and listing of the championships won by each qualifying shooter. I also would like the State Teams to be listed with photos whenever possible.
- We have approved a Youth Development Program for junior shooters and are in the process of writing the policies and procedures to govern the program. Hopefully we will have something together by the Mid-Winter shoot to present to the delegates. The delegates approved the concept at the State Shoot meeting and we made a by-law change to add an appointed position as Director of Youth Development. Don Wise was appointed, by me, to fill this very important position so please thank him and provide any input that you feel may help with the establishment of this program.
- I have been asked on numerous occasions about establishing a North Carolina Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame and have always dismissed it because we did not have a home for the state association. I have decided to establish a virtual Hall of Fame to be posted on our website until such time as we may one day have a permanent home. I have appointed Hayes Wauford to chair the committee and need five members. John Scott and Jack Ross (and now Chip Simmons) have graciously volunteered to serve on the committee so I need three more volunteers to serve. I would like to install the founding members at our next State Championships in September.
We are currently working the schedule for next year unlike prior years we are going forward to NSSA very shortly so skeet managers need to get their shoot dates to Scott ASAP. This year you will see many more 1 day two gun shoots hopefully making it less expensive to the shooters. This will be a test to see how the membership receives it. Please share your thoughts on what kind of shooting you prefer. As I enter my last year of my second term as your president, I want to say that I have enjoyed the ride and thank you for letting me serve. I do not intend to stand for another term.
